Botanical name: Salvadora alii Family: Salvadoraceae (Salvadora family)
White-Berry Toothbrush Tree is a shrub or small tree,
climbing, evergreen; branches drooping. Stems are erect, round,
glaucous. Leaves are simple, opposite-decussate, lanceshaped, 4-6 x 1-3
cm, wedge-shaped at base, entire at margins, with a short sharp point
at tip, leathery, hairless, 3-nerved; leaf-stalks 1-2.5 mm long, thick.
Flowers are borne in a compound, lax panicle, in leaf-axils or at
branch-ends, 5-20 cm long. Flowers are bisexual, actinomorphic, 0.2-0.3
mm long. Sepal-cup 4-lobed; lobes rounded, about 0.1 mm, thick,
greenish. Flowers are 4-petalled; petals oblong, about 0.2 mm long.
Stamens are 4, free, protruding. Fruit is a berry, spherical, smooth,
greenish, white when ripe; seed 1, spherical, 4-4.5 x 0.1-0.3 mm.
White-Berry Toothbrush Tree is native to Pakistan to Central India.
Flowering: January-April.
